All AwardSpace hosting plans include a handy file management tool called File Manager. It is instantly available after you subscribe to any of our plans, including our free hosting, or register a domain name with AwardSpace.

By using the File Manager, you can manage all aspects of your websites’ files – create a new one, edit your existing ones, edit their content, distribute them into folders, delete them, and upload new ones.

In this article, we share how to access the AwardSpace File Manager once you have registered for a hosting plan.

The process is straightforward and requires only a few clicks.

To access the File Manager, first log in to the AwardSpace hosting panel.

Once logged in, click on the File Manager icon, within the Website Manager box:

Access the File Manager via the AwardSpace hosting panel

This will open a new page with a list of all your hosted websites on our servers. To manage the files of a specific website, simply double-click on its folder:

Select a website directory to browse

Once you double-click on a website’s directory, you can browse its root files and folders:

Website files and folders in the File Manager

Outgoing connections are a necessary feature for modern websites. They are used to establish a connection to external servers. In this article, we will review how to enable the outgoing connection for your hosting account.

Enabling outgoing connections

The outgoing connections are a premium feature and thus are available only for our Premium Hosting Plans. If you are using the Free Hosting Plan and you would like to enable them you will first have to upgrade your plan.

To enable the outgoing connections for your account simply follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your Hosting Control Panel
  2. From the Hosting Tools menu open the Hosting Settings page
  3. Scroll down to Firewall Options and enable the HTTP Outgoing connections
outgoing-connections

Currently, you can only enable HTTP(s) Outgoing connections from the Hosting control panel. If you would like to establish an SMTP connection please refer to our article here.

Outgoing connections are enabled but my website still cannot connect to the external server. Why?

The most common reason for your website to not establish a connection to an external server, after you have enabled the outgoing connections would be if the PHP extension curl is disabled.

To save you the extra step we have the curl extension enabled by default on all paid hosting plans. This can be seen inside the php.ini file from the PHP Settings page. The settings inside php.ini are global for your hosting account. Because of this, having a php.ini file inside your website directory would overwrite the settings inside the global php.ini file.

php-ini-file

To make sure that all changes inside your global php.ini are in effect is to make sure that you do not have any php.ini files inside your website directory. A similar example would be the default Opencart installations which have php.ini files in their directory that would prevent your website from connecting to external servers.

To solve this all you need to do is access the website directory and remove the php.ini file(s).

Still not able to connect to external servers?

Although all of this should be enough for your site to establish a connection to an external server, there are still some cases where you might experience issues. For example a blocked network or corrupted file. Our technical support team would be happy to assist you with troubleshooting the issue.

If you have followed our articles for activating the outgoing connections and your website still does not connect, we would recommend you to contact our technical support via Trouble Ticket or email support@supportindeed.com.

As a website owner, there may come a time when you might prefer to hide your site’s contents from the public. Maybe you are in the process of redesigning your website, or maybe you are storing information meant for a particular person and you do not wish others to have access to this data. Whatever the case may be, enabling password protection for your website is one of the most convenient ways to limit who can access your website. Not sure what password protection is? You can check our in-depth article on what is password protection.

How Do I Add Password Protection to My Website?

To enable Password Protection, simply follow the steps below:

The Website Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
The Website Password Protection section of the Control Panel.

  1. Log into the Hosting Control Panel of your AwardSpace account. Don’t have an account yet? Sign up for our service to get started!
  2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  3. Specify a Directory Path using the Choose Folder button. The Directory Path represents the folder that will become password-protected.
  4. Add a custom username and password.
  5. Finish the process by clicking on the Add New User button.

Navigating via your web browser to the directory you chose to protect should yield a page similar to the one below:

Password Protection active on a website.
Password Protection is active on a website.

Does Password Protection Cover Sub-Directories As Well?

Yes, the website password protection covers all sub-directories which are located in the target protected directory. As such, if you secure the root folder for your domain name, all of your site contents will become private. If a visitor tries to gain access without knowing the correct username and password, they would be presented with the following page:

The error message that appears when a visitor does not have the correct login credentials.
The error message that appears when a visitor does not have the correct login credentials.

Can I Allow Additional Users to Access My Protected Directory?

Yes, it is possible to have multiple users for the same protected directory. You can create additional users in two ways:

Creating New Users via the Add Directory Protection Form

The process is essentially the same as creating a brand new website password protection – just make sure that you are using the same Directory Path:

  1. Log into the Hosting Control Panel of your AwardSpace account.
  2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  3. Specify a Directory Path using the Choose Folder button. It should be the same as your existing protected folder.
  4. Add a new username/password combination.
  5. Finish the process by clicking on the Add New User button.

Creating New Users via the Add New User Feature for an Existing Directory Protection

The second approach is to adjust the setting for your existing directory protection:

Adding new users in the website Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
Adding new users in the website Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  1. Log in to the Hosting Control Panel of your AwardSpace account.
  2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  3. Click on the Options button next to your existing protected directory.
  4. Open the Add New User tab.
  5. Fill in the new user’s credentials.
  6. Complete the process by clicking on the Add New User button.

Can I Protect Multiple Directories Using a Single Username-Password Combination?

If you wish to protect multiple directories with a single account, use the “Add Directory Protection” form and use the same username and password combination for every directory that you wish to protect.

Note: We do not recommend using the same credentials for multiple password-protected directories!

How Do I Revoke Access for a Specific User?

Removing users from a protected directory is a straightforward process:

Removing a user in the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
Removing a user in the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  1. Log in to the Hosting Control Panel of your AwardSpace account.
  2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel.
  3. Click on the Options button next to your existing protected directory.
  4. Open the View Users tab.
  5. Click on the Options button next to the user which you wish to remove.
  6. Open the Delete User tab.
  7. Click on the Delete User button.
  8. Confirm your choice by selecting Yes in the popup window that appears.

What Would Happen if I Delete the Last User for a Protected Directory?

The website password protection functions as long as there is at least one user associated with the protected directory. Removing the last user for a given directory will remove the password protection altogether and make your site contents freely accessible on the web.
