In short, yes, directory indexing can be disabled in WordPress. This article explains what directory indexing is, why it is a good idea to disable it, and how to do so.

What is Directory Indexing

Directory indexing (or directory browsing) is a server feature that allows website visitors to browse the contents of a given website. This means that when directory indexing is enabled, you can browse all files and folders that comprise a given website.

Directory indexing includes files and folders, information about their names, sizes, and modification dates. Also, it is common that indexing also reveals file permissions and file types.

Why Should You Disable Directory Indexing in WordPress

It is highly advisable to disable directory indexing for your website. There are many reasons why:

  • Privacy and security. Enabling directory browsing can expose sensitive information about your website’s file structure, file names, and other content. Hackers can exploit this information and access sensitive data about you and your visitors.
  • Unauthorized access. Keeping directory browsing enabled provides access to files that are not intended to be accessed by users.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO). Keeping directory indexing can harm your website’s SEO. This is because, in the context of enabled directory indexing, search engines may index numerous URLs pointing to the same content. In short, directory browsing contributes to duplicate content, which is considered a bad SEO practice.

How to Check Whether Directory Indexing is Enabled in WordPress

The fastest way to check whether directory indexing is enabled on your website is by adding /wp-includes at the end of your website’s domain name. For example:

https://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-includes

Should directory indexing be enabled, you will see a list of the files comprising your website, such as this one:

website directory indexing shows files that comprise your website

However, if directory browsing is disabled, the https://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-includes URL will lead to a 403 Error Forbidden. This is a rare scenario in which an error message means that you have done the right thing for your site.

How to Disable Directory Indexing in WordPress

A simple way of turning off directory indexing in WordPress is via the hosting panel. Here’s how to proceed.

First, log in to the AwardSpace hosting panel.

Then, head to File Manager:

Access the File Manager in the AwardSpace hosting panel

After that, open the directory of your website. Once you do, find a file called .htaccess and open it:

locate the .htaccess file on your website

When you open the file, scroll to the bottom of the code string and add this snippet at the end of the document:

options-indexes

add a code snippet at the end of the document

Then, click the Save button at the top right of the page, so you apply the changes.

Save the changes, so AwardSpace applies them to your website

Now you have managed to disable the directory indexing for your website.

Conclusion

Directory indexing can be turned off in WordPress by following a few simple steps. In this article, we shared how to do so and why it is a good idea to keep directory indexing disabled at all times.

As you might know, WordPress is a free open-source content management system (CMS). It is also one of the most used CMS both by novice and experienced web developers. When you first start using WordPress, you will most likely experiment a lot with various plugins and themes. However, at some point, your WordPress might stop working correctly. In that case, it is common to reinstall WordPress. In this tutorial, we will show you how to reinstall your WordPress and how to keep your content, themes, and plugins.

How to Reinstall your WordPress website?

The process of reinstalling WordPress is a 3-step process:

  1. Delete your WordPress files
  2. Delete your WordPress database
  3. Install WordPress again

Deleting your WordPress files

In order to delete your WordPress files, you will first have to locate them. Usually, they are located in your domain directory with the name of your domain. However, if you have specified a different directory for your domain you will have to check that as well. To do that go to the Domain Manager > Select your domain > Pointers and check the Hosting path which is set.

Now that you know where your files are located, it is time to enter your website directory using the File Manager. Once you have opened your domain directory select all files and remove them.

Note: Sometimes your WordPress might contain files/directories with read-only permissions which will prevent you from deleting them. In this case, simply select all files and set the permissions recursively to 755, and proceed with the deletion.

Deleting your WordPress database

Deleting your WordPress database is done through the Database Manager. If you are not sure what the name of your database is you can easily find it in your WordPress directory inside the wp-config.php file. Once you have opened the config file search for your database name and return to the Database Manager. From there click on your WordPress database and choose Delete.

Installing WordPress

Installing WordPress on your AwardSpace account is an easy and fast process. All you need to do is simply go to the Zacky App Installer and use it to install WordPress. We have a detailed guide on how to do that here.

Congratulations, you have successfully reinstalled your WordPress and you can start your site from scratch.

How to reinstall WordPress and keep my content?

WordPress, like most CMSs that you might encounter, is storing its content inside its database. Therefore you will first have to back up your WordPress database, plugins, and themes. You can do this by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Hosting Control Panel
  2. Access the Database Manager
  3. Click on your database
  4. Open the Management tab
  5. From there choose the Download in SQL Format button
  6. Save your database on your device

If you would like to save your plugins and themes then follow these steps:

  1. Connect to your hosting account via FTP
  2. Open your WordPress directory
  3. Enter the wp-content directory
  4. Download the plugins and themes directory

wordpress-database-import

Now that you have backed up your database, plugins, and themes, you are ready to proceed with the reinstall process by following the steps above.

After WordPress is reinstalled, you need to re-upload your plugins and themes and import your database. Proceed with uploading your files to your WordPress directory via FTP. To import your database head to the Database Manager, open the Management tab for your database and choose Upload and Import SQL.

That’s all, you have successfully reinstalled your WordPress and restored your content.

WordPress is a free Content Management System or CMS. It can be installed both on our Free Hosting and Paid Hosting plans. You can download WordPress from the official website here or you can install it with our Zacky Installer tool. In this article, we will review what is causing the WordPress installation page to show after WordPress is already installed.

wordpress-install

Why is the WordPress installation page showing?

There are a couple of reasons that could cause your WordPress installation page to show:

  • Incorrect database credentials
  • Incorrect database prefix
  • blocked database connection

While the first two could be caused just due to misconfigured wp-config.php file the latter is caused due to server restriction. All hosting plans have a max_questions set to a specific value which limits the number of queries that you can send to your database. We have set the max_questions for our plans as follows:

  • The free hosting plan has max_questions set to 12 000 per hour
  • The shared hosting plan has max_questions set to 50 000 per hour
  • The semi-dedicated plan has max_questions set to 500 000/750 000/1 000 000 respectively for the Starter/Pro/Advanced plan

How to resolve the issue?

Depending on the reason for which your WordPress is returning the installation page you will have to follow different steps.

Verifying the details in the wp-config.php file

If you have recently migrated your WordPress website this could be a cause of misconfigured WordPress website. Fortunately fixing this is done within a few steps and editing the wp-config.php file. The wp-config.php file is located in the root directory of your website. You can access it via the File Manager or FTP client such as File Zilla.

Once you have opened the wp-config.php file you will have to locate the following lines:

define( 'DB_NAME', NAME');
define( 'DB_USER', 'USER');
define( 'DB_PASSWORD', 'PASSWORD');
define( 'DB_HOST', 'DATABASE');
$table_prefix = 'wp_';
wordpress-database

Now that you have found the above lines it is time to verify that the information in your config file matches the information for your database. You can find the necessary information inside the Database Manager by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Hosting Control Panel
  2. From the Hosting Tools menu click MySQL Databases
  3. Click on the database for your WordPress
  4. Open the Information tab

wordpress-database-information

Inside the Information tab, you will find the database hostname, username, and name. If you are not sure what the password for your database is you can generate a new one from the Password tab.

For the table prefix, you will have to access your database via the phpMyAdmin link inside the Database Manager. Once you have done that you will see the name of tables which all begin with the same prefix (usually “wp_”).

wordpress-database-table

Once you have all your database information make sure to update the wp-config.php file accordingly.

Reaching the max_question limit

The max_question limit is the number of queries that you can make towards your database. In regards to WordPress, every change made inside your WordPress admin panel (creating, updating, or deleting a new post) or even updating your account password would generate a query. Every time your post is loaded by a user it would also generate a query. In fact, every time your WordPress communicates with your database it generates a query.

If you are now starting to build your website on a free hosting plan, you are very likely to reach the maximum queries for your database within one hour. Another reason for reaching the maximum number of queries is if you have too many visitors that would constantly load your pages or due to faulty plugins.

A fast way to resolve this issue is to reset the queries for your database to 0 for the current hour. This is done from the Database Manager by opening the Management tab for your database and clicking on 1-click Permission Fix. Once you have done that your website should start working again.

You can refer to our Database Manager article for more information on managing your database.

How to prevent my website from generating too many queries towards the database?

Depending on the reason for which your WordPress is generating and reaching the maximum queries per hour limit, there would be various fixes you could apply to reduce them. As already mentioned, every change/update which you make inside your WordPress will generate a query for your database. Every time your page is loaded queries will be generated for your database.

So when you are building your website and you are constantly getting the WordPress installation page you will have to reduce the number of changes/updates that you do per hour. This in turn would reduce the number of queries generated every hour and would keep you from reaching the limit. You could also upgrade your hosting plan to one which offers more queries per hour.

If your WordPress is not well optimized you might even reach the maximum number of queries from your visitors. I simple way to reduce those queries is to install a caching plugin. An example of such would be WP Super Cache. Having cache enabled for your website would also improve the loading time of your pages which would improve the user experience. You can further check our article on How to enable cache for your WordPress.

Visitors or changes/updates to your WordPress are not the only reason for your site to generate queries. A badly optimized plugin/theme could also be the cause of this. You can install a query monitoring plugin to troubleshoot what is generating the queries for your website. Once identified the cause of the problem you can either contact the developers of the plugin/theme for assistance or simply replace/remove them.

The internet, as well as your WordPress website,  is built on the basis of links. Your SEO results are dependent not only on the number of links that come to your website but on the quality of your internal links.

The latter means that you need to know how to find broken links on your site, should you want to present a nice experience to your WordPress website’s users.

What is Broken Link

A broken link is every link that leads the users to a non-existing page. The existence of such links on your website, especially(but not only) when they are internal (linking to another page inside of your website), could lead to a drop in the SERP (search engine result page).

Furthermore, even one broken link could lead to an outflow of website visitors, a higher bounce rate, and an overall bad user experience, especially if there are a lot of broken links on your website.

Related:  WordPress SEO

How Broken Links Emerge

Links don’t just break with time. There are a few ways that that might happen.

  1. Mistyping. If you decide to type a link, instead of copying and pasting it to the anchor text, the chances are that you will miss a letter or a symbol. Of course, that doesn’t mean you’ll mistype every link, but every once in a while such an event might occur.
  2. A page or a file is deleted or moved. The internet is ever-changing because websites are changing. If you’ve decided to change the permalinks of your WordPress website (an action that we would intensely discourage you from doing), it is mandatory for you to make redirections from the old URLs (permalinks) to the new ones.

How to Scan Your WordPress Website for Broken Links

Maybe, while your website is still new and small in the page number, you could check each and every link every once in a while, or hope that a friend or a visitor will tell you if they stumble upon a link that goes nowhere.

But you know, and we know, this is not a realistic scenario for a website with more than five small pages. And even with five pages, checking out whether all the links are sound, could be torture.

There are Chrome Extensions that check for broken links. But while they perform a decent job, they can only scan a specific page, and on top of that are not always perfect in the results.

The good news is that there is a free plugin that does the job perfectly. And it has a lot more features.

Broken Link Checker – WordPress Plugin

Our favorite plugin for finding broken links on our website is Broken Link Checker. We use it not only to check whether we have broken links but to change them once such occurs.

If you choose to use Broken Link Checker, you need to add the plugin to your WordPress website.

You might do that the same way, you install other plugins, or, if you never have done that, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Go to Plugins -> Add New

Add New

  1. Search for Broken Link Checker

  1. Install and Activate Broken Link Checker

How to Check for Broken Links on Your WordPress Website

Now that you’ve installed the plugin, you need to go to Tools -> Broken Links to check your results.

In this section of your WordPress, you’ll be able to see All the internal links on your website. But the more important part is that you could choose to filter them and see only the links that are broken, only those which are redirected, as well as links with warnings (like the currently unavailable).

Here you can see the post or page that contains the link in question, as well as edit the links that need to be edited. You can also change the anchor text, which is good. If you are the only author on your website, you’ll probably remember most if not all the links that you’ve created, especially when you can see the anchor text and the page that they are located on.

Say, your links are OK, or you just fixed them. How would you prevent broken links in the future?

The “Hidden” Features of the Broken Link Checker

Well yes, we’ve seen all of our links, with their statuses (warning, redirect, broken, OK), but here is the thing, if your website grows, which we hope it does, you’ll want a recurring check on all of them.

You can find the setting of the plugin if you navigate yourself to Settings -> Link Checker.

Once there, you’ll find out how many options the plugin provides.

You can see at a glance whether there are any broken links on your website. Also, create a task for the plugin to check all the links on your website, every X hours. On top of that, should a link break, you can require the plugin to send you an email.

With this plugin, you can forget about having broken links on your website.

Whether you are maintaining a simple blog that you want to share with your website visitors when the next article is going to be published or have an event-oriented website, you (and your visitors) will highly benefit from a publicly available calendar.

And while there are a vast number of calendar services and plugins, probably your best option is to embed Google Calendar directly into your WordPress website.

Google Calendar is becoming people’s go-to calendar application, and there are a lot of reasons for this to be true. The application is highly functional, and it is really intuitive and easy to use.

The process of integrating Google Calendar into your WordPress is as easy as it gets. If you are keeping an eye on our WordPress Tutorial, you might guess that there is more than one way to get the result you want.

AwardSpace guarantees that the time you’ll commit is going to be a time well spent. You’ll be glad that you’ve integrated this Calendar to your WordPress. Moreover, your visitors, provided you maintain it thoroughly, will be grateful to you.

How Google Calendar is better than Other Calendar Solutions?

Of course, you can install a WordPress plugin, one of many, and integrate an event calendar with your website. And there are a lot of calendar solutions available among the immense number of plugins for WordPress. Moreover, while there are some paid solutions, free ones are available as well.

Still, the best option, when it comes to ease of use, functionalities, and features, is Google Calendar. What is more, you’ll be able to create, edit, and remove events on the go – using your mobile phone – which is not necessarily true when it comes to a plugin-based calendar.

Moreover, here are some functions and features, that might tilt the scales even more, provided you are not convinced yet.

  • Sharing Ability
  • Multiple Calendars
  • Reminders
  • Public Calendars
  • Free
  • Integration
  • Syncing Ability

How to Embed Google Calendar into WordPress Manually

Google Calendar is created in such a manner that embedding it into your website will be as easy as embedding Google Forms or embedding a YouTube video, both of which we’ve already covered. Nevertheless, all of these products are created by Google, which in some way guarantees ease of use and integration.

Anyway, let’s focus on how to integrate Google Calendar into a WordPress website. As we’ve done before, let’s break the process into easy steps:

1. Log in to Your Google Account

Google has conveniently merged all its products into one account, named Google Account. Thus, you ought to enter your Google Account, or just go to Google Calendar’s website, where – if you are not logged – you’ll be prompted to sign in with your account.

Bear in mind that all of this should be done from your computer, and not from your Google Calendar App. As the proper code cannot be copied from the app.

On the left side of your Google Calendar, you’ll see the menu with most, but not all options. This is where you’ll check and uncheck which of the calendars you want to see, whether you want the national holidays to be displayed on the calendar itself, and a smaller version of the month you are currently looking at.

The menu on the left is where the functions are, yet a major part of the screen is taken from the main calendar itself. Here is where all your events, goals, and reminders are listed on their respective days. This is what you are going to share with your website visitors. Meaning, that if this is your website’s Google Account – and by extension Google Calendar – the events in the calendar are the events that you want to share with your users.

Here is what you can expect to see.

2. Go to Google Calendar Settings

Looking at the top navigation, we are searching for a gear wheel – the Internet sign for options (settings). To find and copy the embed calendar in your WordPress, click the gear wheel, and look for the Settings option in the drop-down menu.

3. Find the Calendar You Want to Integrate with Your WordPress Website

In the settings page, where you will be redirected, look for the calendar that you want to embed in your WordPress – as Google allows you to have more than one calendar. On the other hand, if you use your calendar for both personal and business-related events, reminders, or goals, you can always create a new one.

4. Make Your Calendar Public

Now that you’ve created a new calendar you ought to make it public, so everyone can see it, when on your website. Bear in mind that when made public, your calendar will be visible in Google Search as well.

Which, provided you keep it clean and tidy, might only bring more traffic to your website, and even could indirectly help your WordPress SEO.

5. Integrate Calendar

In this step, we’ll only get the embedding code, and after a few steps, we’ll integrate it into WordPress. Still, the option on the Google Calendar website is called Integrate Calendar, hence the name of the step.

When in the Google Calendar Settings, and you are looking at the calendar that you want to share, click on Integrate Calendar

Among the new options that are to emerge, look for the Embed code one. Click on the code itself once, and copy the code. To copy the code, you can either click Ctrl+C, or the right mouse button and look for the Copy option.

6. Go to WordPress Dashboard

To embed Google Calendar in your WordPress, you, of course, have to enter the WordPress Admin Panel. This is, more or less, always the first step when editing, changing or adding anything to your WordPress website.

7. Find or Create the Page on Which You Want to Share the Calendar

Whatever you are about to do – find an existing page, or create a new one – you need to go to Pages -> All Pages in your WordPress backend.

8. Embed Your Google Calendar on the WordPress Page

When you land in the page creation, just paste the code, wherever you want the calendar to be shown.

9. Check Whether the Results are Satisfying

Now that you’ve created the calendar that you want to share with your audience, made it public, and copied and pasted the embed code in your WordPress, before you click Publish and make it available to everyone that might be interested, go to the preview option in the upper right corner, right next to the Publish button.

Doing so will redirect you to the front end of your site, where you can see the results – an embedded Google Calendar with all your events if you’ve created any.

Sometimes you may want to delete a specific page on your WordPress website. These cases, although rare, do exist. And when you ought to do it, it is better to know how to delete the unnecessary pages on your website. The reasons may vary from not needing the page anymore to wrong timing, double posting, etc.

How to Delete Page in WordPress

WordPress pages are highly customizable. It is easy for their parent page to be changed. What is more, this operation is equally smooth, whether you are doing this with one or more pages at the same time.

With the right WordPress plugins, you can duplicate a page, transform it into a post, and much more. Thus, you can probably understand that deleting a post is not only possible but is also really easy to do.

As with most, if not all, things that we do on WordPress, the first step is to enter the admin panel.

1. Go to All Page

Now that we are in the WordPress Dashboard, we need to go to Pages -> All Pages.

On the page that will load, you’ll see all the pages that you’ve created on your WordPress website. The list includes Published pages, Drafted pages, and the pages which are pending review. In a word, no matter their status, the pages are included in this list.

2. Find the Page You Want to Delete

Depending on the number of pages that you’ve created, finding the one that you want to delete may or may not be an easy task.

In case you have a lot of pages on your website, and it is hard for you to find the right one, you can use the search field in the top right corner. It is located right above the table with posts.

3. Delete the Page You Don’t Need Anymore

After you have found the page that you need to be deleted, it is easy to remove it. Doing so requires you to hover over it with your mouse so that the hidden options would appear right below the title of the page.

Here is what you should expect to see.

To achieve the wanted result, you ought to click on the Trash option.

How to Delete Multiple WordPress Page

In certain circumstances, you might want to delete more than one page at the same time.

We’ve covered the bulk actions in two separate articles in our WordPress Tutorials. Namely, in the article on how to assign WordPress posts to categories, and in the one that covers how to delete posts in WordPress.

Yet, we’ll show you how to achieve this in the pages, although the actions are the same.

Here is how to delete multiple pages:

1. Go to All Pages

Once again, we need to go to All Pages.

We’ve already covered that step, as it is the same as the second you had to do when we were covering how to delete a separate page.

As you know, your WordPress dashboard has a sidebar menu on the left. Hovering the Pages option on that menu will trigger a drop-down menu to emerge. In it, there should be two options. Namely, All Pages, and Add New.

We are going to the former.

2. Mark the Pages You Want to Delete

Once the table with All Pages is listed before you, you might notice that on the left side of each of these pages, there is a little checkbox. These are the boxes you ought to check if you want to delete the pages.

Search for the pages you need to be removed, and click on the boxes.

As you can see from the image above, provided you want to delete all the pages – click on the checkbox, located above all the pages. Otherwise, click the boxes of the specific pages you want to delete.

3. Delete the Marked Pages

We’ve marked all the pages we need to be removed. There is one last step, and it is to delete the chosen pages.

Both under and above the page lists, there is a Bulk Action drop-down menu. Clicking it will trigger the sub-options to emerge. We are looking for the Move to Trash one. Clicking on it won’t do anything, so we have to click the Apply button, located precisely next to the drop-down menu, to get the pages deleted. Doing so will move the pages to the Trash.

To permanently delete the pages, we need to go to the Trash, mark them once again, and go for the drop-down menu. This time, we are choosing Delete Permanently, once again, followed by the Apply button.

Bear in mind that in the Trash, there is a button that doesn’t exist elsewhere. We are speaking, of course, for the Empty Trash button, which is on the same row as the drop-down menu.

Alternatives to Page Deletion

To hide or unpublish a page, you can use one of the various methods. That will allow you to preserve your content. If in a particular situation, you are not exactly sure whether a page should be deleted or just unpublished, you can go for one of many page statuses.

Those are:

  • Published
  • Draft
  • Pending Review
  • Privately Published.

If you change the status of your page to a status, different from thePublished, users won’t be able to see their content, or even if they exist. Yet, you’ll still have access to them, and to their content. This means you can either edit them or just republish them once again, provided there is a good enough occasion for that.

Although rare, there are occasions in which you may need to delete a post. Of course, the reasons may vary from not needing the post anymore to wrong timing, double posting, etc. Whatever your reasons, sooner or later, you’ll have to delete a WordPress post. So, here is how to achieve it.

How to Delete Post in WordPress

WordPress posts are extremely versatile. You can easily change their categories, and doing so is equally easy, whether you are changing the category of one post or to a group of them.  What is more, by using the correct plugins, you can duplicate posts, transform them into pages, and much more. Thus, you can probably understand that deleting a post is not only possible but an easy task.

As with most, if not all, things that we do on WordPress, the first step is to enter the admin panel.

1. Go to All Posts

Now that we are in the WordPress Dashboard, we need to go to Posts -> All Posts.

On the page that will load, you’ll see all the posts on your WordPress website. Published, Drafted, and those that are pending for review. In a word, no matter their status or category, the post will be listed here.

2. Find the Post You Want to Delete

Depending on the number of posts that you have, finding the post that you want to delete may be an easy task, and if not, there is a search field in the top right corner, right above the list of posts.

3. Delete the Post You Don’t Need Anymore

Now that you’ve found the post that you don’t want to be on your website anymore, you can easily delete it. To do that, hover over it with your mouse, and a few options will emerge under the post title.

Of course, we need to click “Trash” to achieve the wanted result.

How to Delete Multiple WordPress Posts

There are certain situations in which we may need to delete more than one blog post at the same time.

From our previously published post on how to assign WordPress posts to categories, we’ve already found out how to use the bulk select.

In a few simple steps, here is what you need to do if you want to delete multiple posts:

1. Go to All Posts

Once again, we need to go to all posts. You can find the All Posts, as we’ve mentioned, once you hover over the Posts option in the WordPress dashboard sidebar menu.

2. Mark the Posts You Want to Delete

When the All Posts page loads up, you’ll see a list-like table of your all posts. On the left side of each of them, there is a checkbox. Look around for the posts that you want to delete and check their boxes.

You can either check the posts that you want to delete one by one or click on one of the checkboxes located at the table’s “header” or “footer”. Clicking on either of the checkboxes below or above the posts will mark all the posts on that page. Thus, you’ll be able to delete them all simultaneously.

3. Delete the Marked Posts

Now that we’ve chosen which posts we want to remove and check their boxes, we can proceed to the deletion. This part is fairly simple.

Below and above the posts lists, there is a Bulk Action drop-down menu. When you click on it, you’ll see the Move to Trash option. By choosing it, and then clicking the Apply button, which is located exactly next to the Drop-down menu. You’ll move the chosen posts to the Trash.

To permanently delete these posts, you ought to go to the Trash, mark them once again, choose the drop-down menu, and this time choose the Delete Permanently option, followed by the Apply button.

Of course, there is the option to click only the Empty Trash button, located on the same row as the drop-down menu.

Alternatives of Deleting a Post

There are multiple ways for you to remove certain posts without losing your content. In a case you are just not sure whether a post should be deleted or taken down, you might want to change the status of the post.

These statuses could be Published, Draft, Pending Review, or Privately Published.

Changing your posts’ status to each of the listed above will remove them from the website, and the users won’t be able to see them. However, you’ll still have the content created, and the opportunity to edit and republish it.

Now you know how to delete a WordPress blog post. You may want to know how to delete a page in WordPress, as well.

WordPress is arguably the best CMS that exists. But it is one hundred percent the most famous. And that is quite understandable. This content management system is versatile and customizable, and while in the beginning it was created mainly for people to be able to create blogs, as of today the users of WordPress can create pretty much any website by using it.

To create a website with WordPress is easy, and doing so could be free. The CMS itself is an open-source website creation tool, and the web offers Free Hosting and Free WordPress Hosting. Choosing either of them on AwardSpace.com will guarantee you access to a free .dx.am domain, and if you choose to go with our main WordPress Hosting Service, you can get a .com domain for free.

But the abundance of WordPress services is not the only reason the CMS is so famous. In fact, if it wasn’t so good, and easy to use, the services around WordPress probably wouldn’t exist.

One of the main reasons that make WordPress so widely preferred when it comes to website creation is that its creators have had put some thought into every aspect of the CMS.

Almost every media type can be added to your WordPress website content. And as everyone on the web knows, the videos and images are what is making the web so variegated.

When your website grows bigger, naturally, the number of media files uploaded will grow as well.

Depending on how orderly you are as a person, you may want to arrange all those files in separate folders. As the images on your personal computer are composed in separated binders, so you know where exactly the images from that trip to Europe that you took a few years ago, the images on your WordPress-based website, might need an arrangement as well.

Thus, you’ll need to know how to create folders in the WordPress Media Library.

How to Create Folders in the WordPress Media Library

The easiest way to organize your media content is by using a plugin. Although excessive plugin installation is not recommended, as it may form WordPress security problems, while it is maintained within reasonable limits, and the plugins installed are trustworthy, there is hardly a reason to worry.  And, on the other hand, adding a plugin is the easiest way to achieve specific functionality on your website.

To organize the media files on your website, we recommend you to use FileBird. The plugin has a few thousand installations, a high review rating, and what is most important – it is frequently updated by the developers.

You can, of course, choose another plugin, but FileBird is easy to use, and this is the plugin, we’ll cover in the present WordPress Tutorial.

If you choose to go with FileBird, here are the steps you need to follow in order to organize your media files in folders.

1. Go to Your Dashboard

To do so, go to yourdomainname.com/wp-admin. If you need more information, here is how to enter the WordPress dashboard.

2. Once in the Dashboard, go to Plugins->Add New.

3. Search for FileBird

As usual, when installing a plugin, you need to look up the plugin search engine, integrated into WordPress.

4. Install and Activate FileBird

That’s it.

Now the plugin is installed and activated. You don’t have to tune it up, nor take any additional actions.

When you go to your media library, you’ll see on the left of your media files an option to create, rename and delete folders.

Using the Folders in WordPress Media Library

The new media library page layout is fairly straightforward. On the left-hand side, you can see the Folders section. Right there, you’ll be presented with the option to create, rename or delete a folder.

By default, all the media files are located in the Uncategorized folder, as there are no others.

Now, create the folders you need or want.

To move the files that you want in the folders that you need them to be in, you need to either drag and drop them one by one or use the Bulk Select button on the top menu-like bar.

Once, you’ve created the folders and selected the files that you wish to move to a specific folder, drag and drop them there.

Now you know how to create folders in the WordPress Media Library.

Here is how to add media to posts in WordPress.

The more you play around with WordPress, the more plugin installations you will make. And the more you do that, the higher the chances, for some of them to ask you for a post ID.  And although you might have a perfectly working and functional WordPress website, here you are – finding the URL, and the name of your post, but ID?

Post IDs are useful not only for plugins, but some themes, and even widgets could ask you for an ID of a post.

What is Post ID?

As a content management system, WordPress excepts you to have lots and lots of content. And although we see this content as written and stylized words, the database is understanding them as files.

And each of these “files” has a unique number assigned to them.

WordPress’ Post ID is this unique number.

How to Find Post ID in WordPress?

Probably the easiest way to find a post ID is from the All posts screen. Going there is becoming something of second nature, once you have enough posts published. On the other hand, if your website is still under construction, and you find yourself in a situation where you need a post ID, here is how to go to the All posts page.

First, you need to enter the WordPress Dashboard. Once there, head for the Posts option in the sidebar menu.

Now, depending on your permalink settings, and whether the post is published, you can either hover over the view button of the post that you need the ID of or hover over the post’s name.

Doing either of those things will trigger your browser to show you the link you are about to go to.

That link at the bottom of the screen contains the Post ID as well.

More specifically, the post ID will be the number located between the “post=” and before the “&” symbol.

In the screenshot above, the ID of the post is 130.

If you are currently editing a post in which you want to find the ID, you’ll be able to see it in the Address bar of your browser. Like so:

As usually the Post ID is not often needed or used as part of WordPress, most users don’t know how to find it.

But as you now know, it is effortless and straightforward to find the ID of a post. The same goes for pages. As, although they are differently shown, pages are posts, as far as the WordPress database is concerned.

In their article on the importance of customer reviews, Forbes, citing a survey made by BrightLocal, claims that as much as 88% of the customers trust online reviews as much as a personal recommendation. The Forbes article continues by stating that only 12% of the population doesn’t read the reviews regularly.

All that means that, whether your business is based entirely on the web, or you just use your website as a business card, you ought to let your clients share their opinion with other clients.

By doing so, you’ll have more credibility in front of those who are not familiar with your brand. What is more, assuming the reviews on your website are positive, those who are unsure whether they should do business with you, will have one more reason to do so. And a powerful one.

How to Add Reviews to Your WordPress Website

1. Go to the Dashboard of Your WordPress

To go to the dashboard of your WordPress website you need to add /wp-admin at the end of your domain name.

2. Click Plugins.

We’ve already covered the whole process of adding a plugin to WordPress, but you can follow it in this article.

3. Click the Add New.

The Add New button that will let you choose a new plugin to upload could be clicked both on the top of the plugins page and in the drop-down menu on the sidebar.

4. Search for the WP Customer Reviews plugin.

In the search box on the top right of the Add Plugins page, write “WP Customer Reviews”.

5. Install the WP Customer Reviews plugin.

Click the Install Now button for WP Customer Reviews. When the installation is finished, click OK.

6. Activate the Plugin.

Once the WP Customer Reviews  Plugin is installed, click Activate Plugin.

7. Enable WP Customer Reviews.

To enable Customer Reviews on a specific page, you need to go to the WYSIWYG (where you usually create or edit a page) and scroll down to the bottom of the edit page.

9. Tune up the settings.

As shown in the image above, there is more than one feature that you can tune up.  You can either choose a product or a business review. The following is the information about that business. If you don’t have a review website, where people can review more than one business, it is not mandatory for you to fill all the fields.

10. Update or publish the Page.

Now you need to go back to the top of the page, and click Publish or Update when you are ready to edit the page.

Now people will be able to share their opinion about your business.
